Welcome
I am a senior social worker and counsellor providing trauma-informed, ethically grounded counselling and clinical supervision for individuals and professionals navigating complexity, adversity and change.
My work centres on creating a safe, grounded and non-judgemental space where people can slow down, feel understood and begin to make sense of what they are carrying. I work with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, difficult or damaging relationships, those who seek education and processing around coercive control, are experiencing life disruption, and the impact of work-related injury. My approach is steady, respectful and deeply attuned to dignity, agency and emotional safety.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Science, Master of Social Work, and postgraduate qualifications in Gestalt Psychotherapy. My counselling is informed by Gestalt psychotherapy, phenomenology and reflective practice, supporting deeper insight, emotional regulation and meaningful change. While my work is compassionate and relational, it is also clinically rigorous and ethically informed.
Alongside counselling, I provide clinical supervision to clinicians. I am a senior clinician with over 30 years’ experience across frontline practice, systems work and private practice, and I meet all AASW Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements. My supervision supports practitioners to strengthen clinical judgement, professional identity and ethical clarity, particularly when working in complex or high-accountability settings.
I have completed university-accredited training in the DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour-Based Violence) risk identification and assessment framework (developed by Laura Richards), including Train the Trainer, alongside specialist training in trauma-informed, anti-pathologising and anti-victim-blaming practice (Dr Jessica Taylor & Jaimi Shrive). My work is considered, ethically governed and professionally responsible, with careful attention to burnout, vicarious trauma and countertransference.
I bring extensive experience across mental health, disability, addiction, child protection, domestic and family violence, and workplace injury management.
With specialist expertise in domestic abuse, stalking, risk and safety planning, and Workers Compensation, including experience as both a former WorkCover Queensland employee and a current registered provider, I support individuals and practitioners working within or transitioning into this sector.
This includes Adjustment to Injury counselling, complex pain management, complex case management and multi-stakeholder case conferencing.
Whether you are seeking counselling during a challenging period in your life, or professional supervision to strengthen your practice, my work is steady, relational and clinically robust. Clients and supervisees commonly report increased clarity, confidence and steadiness within the first two months of engagement.
I provide counselling and supervision via telehealth across Australia and internationally.

Shelly’s therapeutic approach focuses on the here and now, that is your immediate experience.

While the past certainly affects how we perceive the world, Shelly wants to understand what is happening for you in the moment.

She will asks you to describe your feelings rather than trying to analyse & interpret where you are at.  This method is known as ‘phenomenology’;

it heightens awareness and relational depth.

Shelly recognises that to each individual, their own experience holds far greater authority than anything else.

Self Awareness Cultivation focuses on removing your limiting beliefs to form healthy emotional relationships firstly with yourself, and then, with others. The goal of the therapy is to heighten one’s awareness in order to provide a choice in doing something differently.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy does not aim to change clients. The therapist's role is to assist clients in developing their own self-awareness of how they are in the present moment. This will therefore allow them to rectify issues affecting their life.

Client Centred Therapy

The purpose of person-centred therapy is for the therapist to help you "self-actualize.” In other words, you will grow to believe that you can reach your full potential. This approach focuses on personal growth and facilitates healthy relationships. It can strengthen your sense of identity and help you connect better with others.

Narrative Therapy

The stories you believe about yourself can shape your worldview. Narrative therapy can empower you to “re-author” your own narrative.

 Acceptance & Commitment
Therapy

Accept what is out of your personal control and commit to action that improves and enriches your life. The aim of ACT is to maximise human potential for a rich, full, and meaningful life.

Solution Focused
Therapy

Strength Based
Therapy

Accept your unique potential and create a life that feels energised and authentic. The aim is to focus on the positive attributes, rather than the negative ones.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Accept and recognise negative or unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns. The aim of is to explore the ways your emotions and thoughts can affect your actions and emotions.
